Our systems can be connected to all types of gutters, including flat roof drains.
Must my building have special gutters and downspouts?
What maintenance is needed with the Éconeau system?
The ground filters require rinsing the buffer twice a year, that is in the Spring and in the Fall. The 80-micron filter that supplies water to the toilets must be rinsed every 3 to 6 months. For the aboveground tanks, with freezing temperatures on the horizon, it is important to empty the tank, leave the tap open and place the pump in storage.
Does the water freeze in the Winter?
The water in the underground tanks are protected from freezing. For systems used only in the summer, it is important to completely bleed “empty” the pump and to put it in storage.
Is the water good to drink?
It isn’t drinking water but rather useable water. The Quebec safety standards are very high and do not allow it.
What happens when my tank is full? Does it overflow?
Excess water goes to a drain field to return to underground water.
My house is already built. Can I still have a system?
Of course, you can install an outdoor use system. You’re planning some renovations, you can start thinking about a system that will supply some of your interior needs.
What can I do with rain water?
Water the lawn, the garden, the plants, the flowers, the shrubs and the trees.
Fill a pool, a spa or a fountain.
Clean garden furniture, balconies, decks and exterior building walls.
Wash cars, motorcycles, boats and RV’s.
Supply toilets and urinals.
Irrigate and drain the soil.
In the Winter, will the melt water enter the tank?
Yes, melt water, like the rain, will enter the tank. This allows you to use your system year-round.
Do we have to bring the submersible pump inside for the Winter?
It is recommended, but you don’t have to bring it in. It can stay in the underground tank all Winter because it is protected from freezing. However, aboveground pumps must be stored where they won’t freeze.
Can I install the rain water recovery system myself?
We work with installers and experts having their licence (RBQ in Quebec). We also work with do-it-yourself’s. If you want to install it yourself, we offer an instruction manual when you purchase our systems. On the other hand, it is important to respect all the installation recommendations to make sure the system works properly as well as all the plumbing and building codes. We recommend that a plumber review the plans and features relating to the recovery of rain water to make sure that all codes are respected.
If there is contamination, how do we clean the underground tank?
You must contact us as soon as contamination is identified. To respect our warranties, never use cleaning products without our prior approval.
Is the water stagnant in the tank?
No. The tank is equipped with a water renewal system after each downpour. Rain water enters the tank and when it is full, the old water is discharged in the drain well. Also, for every use and downpour, water moves in the tank. It thus remains clear and clean always.
How much money can I save?
Making potable water is very expensive for municipalities (the city of Montreal spends $800,000 per day), but there are very few cities in the Province who charge citizens for their usage. Those who are already on water meters will certainly save. Most users in the commercial and industrial sectors already pay for their consumption. Furthermore, a rain water recovery system will increase the value of your property because more cities and towns will charge citizens for their water consumption in the years to come. An Éconeau system can also help you protect your investment in landscaping and flower beds during water restriction times.
What is the delivery time?
Around 10 working days for most orders and around 15 working days when oversized tanks are required.
Can I use chlorine or bleach water in my tank?
No. Chemical products can damage the tank and other system components. This will void the warranty.
